Who is SWAN?
The SWAN Core Team consists of members from: Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, City of Valdez, Valdez Parks and Recreation, Valdez City Schools, Prince William Sound Community College, Providence Valdez Medical Center, Alaska Department of Health & Social Services and the SWAN Coordinator.
The initial focus of SWAN was to build on programs in the community that were currently impacting residents’ overall health. Programs were identified where additional funding could potentially grow to make a larger impact. As we approach the new year of 2015, new ideas for programming are also being considered. Through this process It is clear that SWAN cannot, and should not endeavor to be THE voice for health and fitness – rather – it’s charter is to work with existing organizations and influential leaders within the community to find effective ways to leverage their influence in promoting better lifestyle choices – ultimately to the benefit of each individual and the community.
What is SWAN?
The mission of SWAN is: “To provide every Prince William Sound Resident the opportunity to improve their health and well being”.
Our purpose is “To improve the health and well being of Prince William Sound residents by:
· Optimizing synergy through partnerships
· Engaging community residents of all ages
· Focusing on mind, body and spirit
· Enhancing mind, body and spirit through activity and education
· Leveraging/maximizing/bolstering existing programming
How can you be involved?
We are writing to you because we want to help jump start a new or already existing idea, project, or program in efforts to promote healthy lifestyle choices in the Valdez community. Our budget will be seeing some changes this year and these changes may offer an opportunity for fresh programs that come from YOU! If you would like to submit a Funding Request please include the following in your 1-2 page proposal:
1. The issue as you see it
2. The proposed program/intervention
3. Ideas/methods of how to measure results
4. The amount of money requested (ex. $500-$25,000)
Proposals will be chosen based on alignment with SWAN’s mission and purpose, proposed level of long-term impact and proposed degree of effectiveness.
